Tina LaRoche
Tina has been Executive Director of CHT since 2004. Tina was born in CT and moved to VA after many years with the YMCA in Los Angeles. Finding CHT was a union of her belief in the impact of nonprofits in our communities and the joy of camp life. Tina enjoys hiking, reading, retro 80s latch hook, and board games with her family.
Fun fact: Tina paid for college by working as a birthday clown!
Caitlin Carroll
Caitlin is originally from FL, and graduated in 2015 with her master’s in clinical social work from Florida State University! Before CHT, Caitlin worked in multiple areas, primarily focusing on children and adolescents. She is thrilled to be able to combine both her professional skills and her love of camp at CHT. Caitlin can be found rock climbing, playing one of her many instruments, or traveling.
Philip James
Originally from FL, Philip has always been motivated by a passion for empowering young people and creating programs that help them thrive. Before joining Camp in 2025, he served as Camp Director at programs in both MI and CA. Philip is deeply committed to building inclusive environments, and brings his extensive experience in youth development and community building to CHT.Philip enjoys exploring new places, listening to storytelling podcasts, and going on adventures with his dogs Summer and Dre.
Marissa Wendte
Marissa is a passionate development professional and with deep roots in activism, civic engagement, and volunteering. Her extensive experience spans community-based and conservation-focused organizations, where she has honed her expertise in strategic planning, donor engagement, program management, and event coordination. A native New Orleanian she relocated to Charlottesville in 2022, and joined the Camp team in 2025. Marissa loves music, crafting, “playing” the trumpet, yoga, and traveling with her son and husband.
Abby Erbe
Abby joined Camp in 2023, bringing a strong background in marketing, prevention, and nonprofit work. Originally from the Catskill Mountains of New York, she holds a Master’s in Public Administration with a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications. When she’s not at Camp, Abby enjoys hiking, kayaking, crafting, and thrifting with her husband, and spending time with their two dogs, Saint and Smoke, and two cats, Mitt and Grandpa.
Jen Ortuño
Jen joined the CHT team in 2022. Originally from Northern Virginia, she earned her BFA in Technical Theatre from Longwood University and has worked in regional theatre costume shops and wardrobe for various productions. Her love for camp began as a Girl Scout, where she earned the Gold Award. In her free time, Jen enjoys reading, cross stitching, traveling to Ecuador, and exploring a good street fair.
Jimmy Miller
Jimmy joined the Camp family in 2021, bringing more than 20 years of experience in land management and maintenance. A longtime Charlottesville resident, he also serves as the bartender for Camp’s annual Hope Grows fundraiser. Jimmy enjoys spending time with his three kids, smoking meats, baking, and listening to music. His favorite place in the world is beside a campfire.
Dr. Mae Furr
Dr. Mae Furr, a primary care pediatrician at UVA, received her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. She’s passionate about keeping campers healthy, safe, and smiling, bringing her expertise to Camp’s med team to create a supportive environment where every child and teen can thrive.
Dr. Andrew Burns
Dr. Andrew is well known in the Camp community from his work on the med team and his time as a CHT counselor. Dr. Burns combines medical expertise with firsthand Camp experience, ensuring that Campers receive top-quality care while enjoying all the magic and memories of Camp.
